- NEWS RELEASE
-
- Purpose
- The Mac Software Monitor is an important newsletter devoted to understanding
- System 7.0. There are many new features in System 7.0 that are not fully
- understood by the average Macintosh user. Anyone who needs to know more about
- System 7.0 will find The Mac Software Monitor to be a practical, easy-to-read
- source that gives sound advice and timely information about the new system
- software.
-
- The Mac Software Monitor also serves to alert readers about new software
- releases. Instead of relying on mailings from the software companies and
- word-of-mouth, readers can simply turn to our Update Alert column to find out
- if their software has been updated. Subsequent issues of the Mac Software
- Monitor will feature book reviews, product reviews, and articles on Mac-related
- topics of interest to professional Macintosh users.
-
- In addition, every issue of the newsletter includes software compatibility
- listings, alerting readers to applications and hardware which may not work with
- System 7.0. “This is one of the most crucial aspects of a System 7.0 upgrade,”
- says Rob Getlan, Editor-in-Chief, “Many people will run into trouble when
- installing System 7.0 because they aren't aware that their software or hardware
- is incompatible. As a result, they may experience problems ranging from lost
- data to full-blown system crashes. The information in The Mac Software Monitor
- helps Macintosh users avoid the difficulties that seem to crop up whenever the
- system software is changed.”
-
- The Mac Software Monitor debuted in May, 1991 alongside System 7.0. In its
- first three issues, the Monitor has featured in-depth articles on various
- aspects of System 7.0 such as Virtual Memory, AppleEvents, and hardware
- requirements.
-
- A one year subscription (9 issues) is $49.
- Institutional rates and group rates are also available.
-
- Corporate Background
- Mac Software Registry was a System 7.0 beta-test site from March, 1990 until
- the release of the “Golden Master” in May, 1991. This enabled the company to
- gain over a year’s experience with System 7.0. In October 1990, Apple Computer,
- Inc. invited Rob Getlan, President of the Mac Software Registry, to attend a
- conference on System 7.0. Here, Rob joined 15 other Macintosh consultants in
- advising Apple in Macintosh user needs, demands, and problems.
